One of the main bonuses of a paid service is that it limits the number of users so they can get an email such as joe.blogs@me.com. When services become free, more people sign up until people have to settle for Joe.M.blogs5739@me.com, and then the service looses its upper-market feel.

I would much prefer to apply for a job using the first address for instance.

Maybe the key would be to offer the IPhone for all providers, make it run
a mobile version of OS X with IChat video. I have Sprint and their music store downloads in AAC format. I have wondered if their music store is actually ITunes and they resell it as their own. Does any other carriers download in AAC?
i second this, i would only buy this is i could use it with my Verizon account.

I guarantee America has all the technology required to make components for a phone battery.

And yes, I'd pay more for EVERYTHING I buy if I knew that an American was making it here in America. That means more people working fair-wage jobs, paying taxes, and contributing to the economy by spending THEIR money in the economy as well.

Problem is, as I said before, Apple sells worldwide. And most of the world couldn't possibly care less if a product is made in the USA or in Japan. We want it to be as good as it is now, at the best price. America can't do that, can it? Prince increase = sales decrease.

The problem with the cloud based approach is the current limits on data usage. If your not on wifi I can see a good amount of folks going through 2GB of data quick.

Please site sources of when has Apple cared about staying ahead of an artificial market. I am trying to think of a time and they never really cared. They bring out what works when it works and that is why they do so well without having to have 100 products out all the time.

Every company cares about the market, and the market is very real. Basic economics, a college course should suffice. Apple is no different. Otherwise, why did Apple add Retina Display? Why did Apple add an A5 processor on the iPad 2? Why did Apple push for A4?
Apple always compares themselves with the competition, it's illogical to think that Apple doesn't care about the market.

Regarding the OP, i'm really hoping for a larger screen, or something which will entice customers, Apple wants to get everyone even people with iPhone 4's to upgrade.

In what would likely be a major surprise to many Apple followers, The Loop's Jim Dalrymple reports (http://www.loopinsight.com/2011/03/28/no-iphone-ipad-or-mac-hardware-coming-at-wwdc/) that Apple is not planning to introduce any new hardware at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/28/wwdc-2011-set-for-june-6th-10th/) for June 6th through 10th. The conference has been consistently used to introduce new iPhone hardware over the last several years, with the company occasionally introducing other hardware as well.Apple closed the door this morning on any speculation that it would announce new hardware at its Worldwide Developers conference saying it would focus on iOS and Mac OS.

Apple's apparent focus on software in its WWDC announcement backs up what my own sources are saying about the annual conference. That is, expect a software show in not a hardware event. While a focus on software is not unusual for Apple's WWDC promotional materials given its primary positioning as an event for developers, Dalrymple notes that the 2011 materials do nothing to contradict what he has already been hearing from sources: namely, no new hardware this year.

It is also important to note that Dalrymple has not specifically claimed that new iPhone hardware won't be introduced in the same general timeframe as WWDC, merely claiming that any introduction won't occur at the event itself.

One analyst report (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/no-fifth-generation-iphone-launch-until-september/) from late last month indicated that a September launch for the fifth-generation iPhone seemed to be the likely scenario. Those rumors were turned into claims of "delays" that were refuted (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/rumors-of-iphone-5-ipad-2-delays-called-untrue/) by Dalrymple himself and other sources. The difference may have been in semantics, however, as Dalrymple simply noted at the time that Apple had not deviated from its own internal release schedule plans, but whether those plans called for a typical June release or something more in line with the September rumors or even something else entirely was unknown.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Right now it seems like we are just saying Maybe it will come out on X date! and every time we are wrong we move it to Y date and eventually we WILL get it right and say Z date but that would be after 3 months

Nope. The entire line will be Core 2 Duo by Thanksgiving. MBP will get speed bump to 2.33GHz for further differentiation while MB will remain 2GHz. No logic to keep buying Core Duo processors for the same money as Core 2 or less than they bought Yonah to begin with. They are already making record profits. I doubt they will deliberately cripple mini, iMac and MB when everything is selling like hot cakes anyway. There are plenty of other ways each line differentiates from the other. To leave any line in Core Duo would be outright greedy and I dont' see Apple as having that personality trait.

I fugure it's a 50-50 chance Steve tells the developers next week they can start thinking about 64-bit optimization due to the Core 2 shift that will be complete this year.

you act like the Core Duo (Yonah) is terribly slower than Core 2 Duo (Merom), but benchmarks have showed that they are very similar in performance. i don't see the big deal about upgrading all of them now, when the current chip has plenty of power

I don't see how you can say that. None the less how anyone can confidently answer this question.

You arrive at 288 by multiplying 48/2 * (9+3), but that is assuming multiplication is the implied operator.

The way the equation is written, this question simply does not make sense. Parenthesis or something similar are needed to make this equation solvable.

You say you are fluent in mathematics, etc, but fluency requires proper syntax, which the equation simply does not have. If a professional gave me this problem to solve I would call them an idiot.

Multiplication is always the implied operator for an equation in that form. If it is something other the multiplication is must be specified. 2*2=(2)(2).

    balamw & dukebound85:
You guys are making too many assumptions.

Following your thought process, the original post is not properly written then?

I don't think they are. They are (correctly) saying that if you solve the problem as written without making any assumptions you come up with 288 as the one, and only, correct answer.

Also, Balamw I posted almost exactly what you just said (post above this). See post 179.

[B]But I don't think companies should be able to copyright overall aesthetic choices unless the two products are basically identical looking and intended to be sold as cheap knockoffs.

And the Samsung phones are not cheap knock offs, they're actually probably the best andriod phones on the market.

Wait, so they should be able to clone a competitor's product's industrial design as long as they don't undercut the competitor's price?

well I called back and upped the ram to 2 gigs which is what i consider the base really.

I just didnt want to go running around looking for ram to get to work.

Crucial doesnt have anything for the MacPro yet and I was fooled by the strange new words and the "you will have heat problems if you buy other ram from other makers that dont have heat sinks!"

    What the??

So I feel for it and bit another 300 offa my wallet.

figure that with this base i can then search at a somewhat leisurely pace to get the other 4 gigs kits that will fit in the remaining slots.

Please someone tell me it was a smart move?

i'm trying to not get my hopes up on this one.. mostly because I expect that it'll just be the movie store, and that really doesn't excite me very much. I'm not the type to buy DVDs, or watch a movie more than once unless I have to.. so paying $15 for a DVD to watch on a small screen isn't as appealing as heading to my blockbuster and paying $4 to watch it once on my TV and then move on.

But boy.. if a new iPod comes out.. I'm gunna have to go work the streets tomorrow night so I can afford one.. er. ;)

Yes, the war just started and things are heating up. ...
Maybe Microsoft will wedge their way in,...

I absolutely expect MS to wedge their way in, they just have to come up with an adequate OS (it doesn't have to be the 'best' OS). They have tons of cash, distribution channels, developer communities, and 00's million of desktops install that they can leverage. Look at how much money they 'blew' on Bing, Zune, Xbox to gain a tiny foothold.

Wild speculation: It's possible that, for the short term, Apple might have both Intel and ARM processors in some of its machines. Think GPU or co-processor. This would allow a "Mac" to run iOS apps at full speed without processor emulation (albeit some chipset/environmental emulation).

I use Mac in quotes because such a hybrid monstrosity may in fact be iOS first, Mac second. Somewhere between an iPad and a MacBook Air.

It seems obvious that Apple wants this sort of blending, so why not do it in hardware?

    Jul 21, 09:41 PM

Ownership of data is a concern. If I buy music through the cloud service does that affect my ownership of the music/data? Can I download the music to my hard drive and have unrestricted access to it after I cancel my cloud subscription?

You can log in to your cloud account at any time and download any music you've purchased from amazon.com.

If you have a paid account, and you use more than the 5GB of "free" data space, then you stop paying for it and your account reverts back to "free" mode, you can still download your data, but you can't add any new data to the account until you remove enough to get you back under the 5GB cap.

If you have stuff on the cloud that you don't already have stored on your own device somewhere, you're playing with fire to begin with.

LOL WUT? You're honestly going to count emulated games (pirated in almost all cases) as Android games?

Why wouldn't you count those as games? They are available for Android. They are not available on iOs.
