I heard lame snide remarks like yours when USB first showed up. "Only Macs have it!"

In that case, you were only listening to the ignorant. USB ports were common on PC systems a year before the toxic plastic CRT Imacs shipped.

I upgraded a half dozen systems in early 1997 - yep, they had USB ports. I built a system with an Asus P2L97-S motherboard in fall '97. Yep, USB ports.

When "USB first showed up", only PCs had it.

But, no surprise, few devices were available at the start of 1998 and software support was erratic.

Have fun debugging Apple's ThunderPort support. If the new MBPs couldn't run normal programs without locking up and crashing - do you really think that after waiting months for your ThunderPort disk drive (no price listed, that's scary too) that it will "just work".

It probably will work most of the time after the second firmware update. You may have to wait for the "early 2012" MacBooks for it to always work.

This seems like a good move from Apple...very strategic. If I didn't know better, they are throwing Creative's dead corpse at Microsoft before Microsoft join the battle...

I can see it now, Steve has a secret hideaway with big tabletop toy soldiers and BOOM! Creative's just fell down...hehe.;)

So when was the last time that you heard of a person killing an animal for food. We are not just politically correct but so out of touch with reality. Its an exercise in will power to actually take an animals life with your own hands.

People just want the world to be a utopia  where the security guard pulls out his phaser  and stun them but first he had his personal shield up just in case. :D

Shame that everyone is going to jump to conclusions rather than work out why this is stored.

And really, would you rather have the information stored on the device or logged by Google?

I'd rather have none at all. This is a file being stored. It's big bad news.

LMAO...are you serious? You find another carrier in the US that has unlimited data and has the iPhone?. Don't say Verizon because Verizon has already stated the unlimited plans were TEMP and only to draw in new customers at the launch of their iPhone. They made clear, those plans will be going away.

That statement is pure speculation and I have not seen that anywhere *official*. Until it actually happens, it hasn't happened.

If this "mall cop" also happens to be an off-duty police officer moonlighting at a second job, I'm not surprised at the outcome. Police officers are rightfully taught to shoot to kill. A wounded criminal can still kill an officer wheras a dead one cannot. Unfortunate outcome, but the simple truth is don't commit armed robbery.

......Checkpoints should be illegal anyway. .... Corruption is everywhere, people. I dislike most people that where the badge. Yeah, I'm prejudice in the same way that they are prejudice towards most citizens.

The servants have become the masters. People are so fearful, fat and happy that they'd rather not do anything about it. We fight (http://www.ncrepublic.org) the de facto state in court on a regular basis. Most of the cases get thrown out for lack of jurisdiction, or as they say "jurisdictional economy" (it gets too expensive to fight us). It's all just a money thing. They don't care.

    What a joke.

Very hard to say, but 3G is not taking to the rest of the world very well, especially the US as they can't get 2/2.5G to work properly yet. This is about the only occasion when the UK really is doing well.

Wrong. Cingular is rolling out 3.5G (HSDPA), and although they only have one phone that currently supports it (the LG CU500, http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp?RFlow=A&source=INC230056&zip=10010&q_deviceId=cdsku9870167&WT.svl=dtl), reviewers have been wowed by the download speeds and smooth streaming video performance (download speeds are 1.8 Mbps).

Maybe this was exactly one of the reasons that Apple chose Cingular: it was the only carrier that could support integration with the iTunes music store. Yes, you heard right: I predict that Cingular and Apple worked out some deal where Cingular will use the iTunes music store rather than trying to set up their own music store. You heard it here first. I predict that the mobile iTunes software on the iPhone will actually be store-enabled...

If you're like me, you don't have your Mac right next to your TV. Not only would I have to string a DVI/HDMI cable aaaall the way across the room, I would also have to get an equally long digital audio cable. Probably end up costing about the same as a video AirPort Express (if they keep the prices the same) but with the added hassle of getting those cables across the room.

This would be a lot less expensive than buying a Mac mini, especially if you already have a powerful desktop just waiting to play some HD videos...

Exactly! I think other potential twists would include a video Airport Express with a built-in TV tuner (to stream tv content back to your iMac/Mac Pro for recording, or an optional built-in HD for local storage when you don't have your Mac on or something.

I hate to say this folks, but even an iPhone wouldn't be worth having to deal with Cingular's godawful service. Reception is poor in areas where it's supposed to be good and even when you have good reception, you get dropped calls due to network error/rejected/dropped. I've had Cingular for a while now, and I am preparing to drop it with eagerness, even if that means a $200 contract termination fee. I want to slug that twat who says Cingular has the least dropped calls, because it's a ********* LIE.

    Settle down Beavis....

Hellooooooooo...reception is going to depend on your specific location!!! I'd have to Google what the latest survey results are, but I'll bet ranking of overall national average quality of coverage is:

    1) Verizon Wireless
    2) Cingular
    3) T-Mobile
    4) Sprint

..so I'll bet that on a national basis, Cingular is not as good as Verizon Wireless, but certainly not the worse.

Also, are you using the older phones that they are trying to phase out? If you are, then I sympathize with you and I think that those Cingular customers got a raw deal. But realize that Cingular did NOT really fully integrate the Cingular and AT&T networks, and that a new phone like the iPhone will probably get quite good reception on average (as per my guesstimate rankings above)

Someone needs to bookmark this thread so we can come back to it in 2015.

No we don't. We just go back to 6 months ago and see what they incorrectly predicted.

    Predicted 2014 Market Share (http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/forums/viewthread/79242/)
    Symbian: 32.9%
    Blackberry: 17.3%
    Android: 24.6%
    iOS: 10.9%
    Windows: 9.8%
    Other: 4.5%

    Today's guess:
    Symbian: 0.2% (change: -32.7%)
    Blackberry: 13.7% (change: -4%)
    Android: 45.4% (change: +20%)
    iOS: 15.3% (change: +5%)
    Windows: 20.9% (change: +11%)
    Other: 4.6%

Even accounting for the Symbian/Windows "merger", their predictions aren't even worth reading.

Good for Apple. Get those tree hugging hippies out of there. Everytime Greenpeace complains Steve Jobs kills a baby seal.I think Steve Jobs considered himself one of those hippies. He only eats organic foods and is a vegan. He rides a bike too. We saw him ride to Stanford Shopping Center a couple months ago. I doubt he likes any group affecting his bottomline, but I bet he's pushing to make things more environmentally friendly. Plus, there's plenty of places to recycle electronics and I'm not sure why corporations are being held responsible. I'd imagine waste managment companies could offer that service as they do recycling for other products. I'm a firm believer that it's an individuals responsibility to recycle, but companies need to make an effort in the production process as well.

You want HD quality downloads but you can "stick" with DVD's? Do you understand how much information there is for a HD movie? Try one of the new disc formats, but you want to be able to download it? Crazy!

It's actually very possible to download HD content if Apple adopts a shared-bandwidth system like BitTorrent. It was rumored that they might do so. I download HD TV shows all the time - and it's fast and they're gorgeous.

Well Folks, you all seem to be concerned about if your iPod 5G is outdated..
    ever thought about that?
If I got Steve right, no iPod that was sold prior to this very day will be able to play videos from the iTMS sold from this day on - not if Apple hasn't been lying VERY much about the H.264 decoding capabilities of the "old" iPod 5G.

I'd love to be corrected, though...

You're wrong. Older 5g iPods can play the new tv shows and movies from the iTunes store. Lets not get ridiculous here.
