    Hey Apple,
I don't want my iPhone 5 to be leaking radiation...

    Too soon? :cool::rolleyes:

    No, not really.

    Just not funny at all.

LOL! I love it when someone calls someone else "naive" when the opposite is true just based on their statement! Funny isn't it?Sorry. Not seeing the pun in your retort. But I'm generally inebriated 98% of the time. Try again between 6:00 and 6:15 A.M.

2002 called, they want their platform idea back.

Seriously, does anyone here even hear about tablet PCs anymore? Nope.
What happened with Microsoft Origami? Nothing.
What are people wanting to use for computing on the go? A smart phone.

Apple didn't get involved when this was "the rage" and I couldn't be happier. The idea never became anything more than a niche product in health care, manufacturing, and perhaps education. It bombed. And Apple wasn't left holding the bag on a bunch of unsold product. Another "failure in this companies beleaguered history" as it would be used as fodder in the press.

    But now Apple has incentive.

    And patents.

    And verge products.

The entire idea of restoring from a Time Machine backup has always been illogical to me.

If Time Machine backs up everything, then it backs up whatever problems you had that resulted in your need for restore.

Time Machine has limited real use, and its basically limited to accidentally deleting things.

Indeed, which is why I also do a Carbon Copy Clone once in a while. Most people, for some reason, just use Time Machine. Maybe they never have encountered a catastrophic disk failure. Seems like a big risk to take.

I want them to go AMD across the board.
    I'd like that.

AMD is currently a bang for buck chip maker, I doubt you'll see them CPUs in Apple products. Plus until Fusion develops some more the thermal envelope isn't too good.

Would it be worth it rolling over my 17 in macbook pro, w/ a 2.16 core duo to a macbook pro w/ merom chip and other new attributes. Would there be a significant difference in speed , ect. that would make it worth it and if so, what would i do about my registered applecare protection plan?Your Applecare is transferable to the next owner not to your next Mac. I doubt your 17" top of the line MBP will be much different from the next version. But if they go Black Anodized Aluminum - as some of us think they will (including me) - cosmetically it will be very different. Best way to stay current is to sell on eve of or right at the point of the announcement. If you can swing it, buying the next one before selling what you have is the easiest way since you don't have to be without one.

    I'm looking for:

    1. Merom @ 2.33 GHz
    2. User Upgradable HD like in the MacBook
    3. 4GB RAM possible
    4. Santa Rosa chipset (not due 'til Spring '07)
    5. 17" like you have
    6. Black Anodized Aluminum
    7. 802.11n
    8. 10-Gigabit Ethernet
    10. Leopard Onboard
    11. Refurbished

So I'm gonna only go refurb MacBook meanwhile if anything at all. I really spend most of my time on the Quad since it is so powerful. I'm multitasking something fierce lately. But I don't want 4 other cores. I want 8 with Leopard. So I'm pretty much in a holding pattern until all the above happen on the mobile front. I will especially NOT pull the trigger until they redesign to make upgrading the HD as easy as it is to do on the lowly MacBook.

Excellent. Now it's time to wait for the sub-$2000 "Pro" desktop announcement. There's a suspicious gap in their lineup. Mac Pro Cube (http://macprocube.com), perhaps?

Agreed.I was heartened to see no Core 2 duo low end for this very reason.

You could argue that when they pump all consumer Mac resolutions up to the limit of human perception, resolution independence becomes sort of moot.
Almost, but not quite. Full resolution independence would allow you to change the scale/size of UI elements. Even if you can't see the pixels, some people may prefer smaller or larger "virtual" resolutions.

love it love it love it...wish i had some cash for i would plunk it down on a new one right now.

love the 4 bay internal HDs...very sweet. cost savings right there of not buying externals

    processors cool

2 opticals...very nice...shows expandability to bluray in the future and/or another dvd burner.

i see posts, yet again, screaming for a mid range tower and then they argue for mid range pcs. for the price of the 2.0 processors, you can get a mac pro for just over 2 Gs.

what people quickly...so very quickly seem to forget are the intangibles such as:

increased workflow - how anyone could possibly argue that working on windows xp is faster than os x is beyond me. colour coded folders and items; expose; spotlight; drop and dragging items etc.. etc.. etc..

stability - no crashes...things run very smooth compared to a peecee world.

for anybody working on these machines, these 2 factors are HUGE. saved time = saved money = more projects done = more billable hours

i can't understand why graphic designers/ video and photo folks would want to work on a pc.. macs are the way to go.

these are intangibles which allow me to work faster, which saves me money. unfortunately, there is no up front cost associated for these so when ppl start looking at a 'lack of mid range'...they forget the additional savings and VALUE which you could say are 'built in'.

wrt to the gaming issue, from what i understand, macs are great for gaming. personally, i wouldn't own a personal computer for just one thing. that sounds pretty darn silly. i'd like it to be multi-functional. if anyone has the cash to have a machine just for gaming, they could surely afford a mac then b/c they must have some cash...

What, precisely, did Samsung blatantly "rip off" from Apple? The sliding hardware keyboard? The chunky black plastic form factor? The pry-off rear cover and removable battery? Was it the flash they were including with their cell phone cameras before Apple even introduced a phone? Perhaps the plastic buttons and the extra dedicated (wasted) interface "buttons" on the screen. Maybe the skinnable launcher and widget-enabled home screens?

I hope that was sarcasm, cause in any other context it just makes you look like an uneducated fanboy.

If anything, this just proves that Samsung is doing something right. I mean, let's face it, Apple is acting a lot like the Winklevoss twins at this point. Technically, they should sue every PC manufacturer on Earth for every ounce of silicon ever produced, because, after all, Apple did invent the personal computer.

As it's already been said, Apple is protecting their IP and patents. If they don't show the effort, they run the risk of losing them. It's not a "Apple is evil" issue, it's how IP and patents work.

As I have always known it, the standard configuration gives you a 14 day return policy, full refund, or 15% restocking fee if it is opened. A BTO machine is considered an "Opened" machine by apple, since they take the standard configuration and change it. So if you buy a BTO machine, you can return it, but you will be subject to the 15% restocking fee. Just take it back to an apple store, show your receipt, and it should be fine.

So what would you call 500ml of beer at a bar?

Somehow I don't see that becoming popular pub lingo...

Growing up in a metric country (French speaking Switzerland) it was a canette, and Wikipedia reveals a veritable plethora of other colloquial terms in French depending on your location.

    http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verre__bire

Including: Demi, Pinte, Distingu, Vritable, Baron, Mini-chevalier, Chope, Srieux, Canette, ... (the bold one should look somewhat familiar ;) )

It's just like I said earlier about the pound. In everyday use there's not much difference between a 454 g pound and a 500 g "pound".

Not yet another hardware transition and emulation.

Apple never picks up the tab for this crap. It's always the user who pays and pays and pays.

I would suggest that we always move forward. I think going backwards is only something worth considering IF am adventurer sustains significant injury and we had JUST left a room w an unused healing potion / talisman / chingas. Why give mscriv the opportunity to seed traps behind us?

well, we left two doors unopened in the initial room, so going back to the start room and look what's there, is a way to 'move forward'. besides, mscriv can put the trap/monster in the room in front too.
(and apparently you cannot use potions 'later')

do we agree on exploring this room now?

personally, I would love to see the newton make a return in phone shape.

A phone, with great pda abilities to sync to all my mac applications. Plus, the iChat someone mentioned earlier.

All of that, in a nice sleek package. I would switch phone carriers for that.

I could care less about cameras and iTunes on the phone.

That's a Fujitsu ST-5000 series device with a Mac OS X screenshot on top:

    http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=ST5100&ptype=TB

I owned one, and they're great tablets. Would love to be off of Windows totally and have a Mac tablet, but there are two important things still holding me on a tablet: handwriting recognition (actually, storing my notes in Ink which is indexed in text) and speech recognition (iListen isn't as good as Dragon Naturally Speaking... even David Pogue who loves Macs has a PC specifically for speech recognition).

Still, if Apple comes out with a tablet, I'd get one.

wow, most importantly on slide 3 they say that they launched the 965 chipset. that means they can switch to the 965 integrated GPU across the board for consumer macs. that would certainly help the heat issues, make the macs cheaper and less complicated to design for apple. standard parts and boards allow for even faster updates. good news.Only one problem though. The scheduling for that release is quite messy. Santa Rosa is based on the G965 and won't launch until Q2 2007.
