They sold well over 1 million desktops/workstation units last quarter and will surpass that quite handily this quarter.

People who think they know Apple's long term strategy as iOS only know nothing of Apple.

Out of curiosity then, what is the long term strategy of Apple? Educate us.

Has Apple given their ID department the year off? Or have the reassigned everyone to make the iPod look cooler? No I wasn't expecting a radical redesign, because aside from the MacBook there hasn't been one in a long time.
I miss the good old days when Apple would not only drastically change the case design every time a new processor was used, but they would also do some major tweeking of materials and color for minor speed bumps. I know it's hard with laptops and the mini because they are so simple all you can really do is change colors and materials used. But the towers and the iMacs.... :(

I hope Apple doesn't simplify themselves out of the industrial design business. Not yet. They do seem to be getting a little lazy though.

Yeah, you're right. We should all be geo-tagged from birth and have cameras implanted in our eyes so that the Government can catch bad people. We have nothing to hide, afterall.

They already do that without our knowledge, so why keep worrying about it?
As long as they know where we are when we need help, who cares?

All those street cameras, Toll transponders, Tolls with license plate recognition, cellular tower triangulation, Telephone tapping, Stake outs, curious neighbors watching you (potential witnesses), etc.; that's a lot of tracking going on there... that's without counting on Satellite surveillance available to the government to use whenever they need it.

    So the fact is that:
 THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ABSOLUTE PRIVACY!!!

Seems to me the new 24" iMac is the "Media Player" - My two largest "monitors" are my 23" ACD and a 26" old skool TV. I watch DVDs on the ACD, as I get a little bit more picture and a lot more clarity than on my TV.
Seating accommodations in my office aren't as nice as the living room, but oh well...

It wouldn't be a huge leap for Apple to super-size the 24-inch iMac into 42-inch and 52-inch displays. The architecture of the iMac is well-suited to a plasma display.

You are right, I fold. I know nothing about 19" racks (1.80 meters tall and 150 kg. in weight), and nothing about conditioned server rooms with dual power feeds at all. Flight cases with equipment I also know nothing about. I'm sorry I'm doubting your knowledge and insight.

I'm not trying to win here, or get anyone to fold. It's not my knowledge or insight, but just observation from those people who want to use their Mac Pros in racks for other than server applications.

It has been this way for a long time. Remember Marathon G-Rack?

no, they need a free phone--

by the way how do you buy stock in Android's success? Certainly not Google...

I don't want stock in Android's success. I want a phone with up to date modern features. I could care less who I buy it from - that's a FANBOY thing.

Wow, why all the hatin'? This is what they did before. This is the way things are headed. I see another sub $1000 just like the iBook, that's a given. I'm hoping for a cheaper one, but not expecting it for awhile. Could be months, could be years. But as prices drop, it will happen. It's only a matter of time. The iBook never went under $999. I barely call that a sub-$1000 laptop. But whatever you say. I'll agree that $999 looks better then $1000 though. :p

yeah i would love a MBP with:

    Black Case
    Better Graphics Chip
Blu-ray drive (perhaps? apple is cutting edge in HD this would solidify it)All of these Blu-Ray fans scare me. Considering they're having trouble fabricating the 50 GB discs..

Currently, roughly how much would a display that meets retina specs cost?

Depends. What size display and what is the normal viewing distance for that type of display ? With both those, we can calculate the required PPI and see if something already exists in that size or not.

You might be surprised to find out it's already out there and quite competitively priced in some cases.

There is just so many things wrong with storing all your own music in 'the cloud' that it boggles me there's still fools who think it's a great idea.

Enjoy paying larger data fees to access your own damn music while drinking that Kool-aid. Everyone involved in this scam (but you) will be laughing all the way to the bank.

This is clearly an answer to a question no one asked.

You are so right. I'm thrilled with Apple's brainwashed minions, and even happier that I began loading up on Apple stock over a decade ago.

Little did I realize they would bring us shareholders so much wealth. To think that I bought a load of shares when it was under $20 per, then kept adding each year since, brings a huge grin.

At this point everything I buy is nearly free. And when they screw up the masses still buy it. Nothing could be sweeter.

Ahh, I see that you just joined this site just to troll, huh?

One of the main bonuses of a paid service is that it limits the number of users so they can get an email such as joe.blogs@me.com. When services become free, more people sign up until people have to settle for Joe.M.blogs5739@me.com, and then the service looses its upper-market feel.

I would much prefer to apply for a job using the first address for instance.

I personally wouldn't care either way. I used the trial for about 25 days before the nostalgia wore off. That's me though.

Before the nostalgia wore off? You must mean novelty...

Dang... I feel like $80 a month is a LOT of money for 1TB of space. Especially when you can pay $70 ONCE and get your own 1TB drive.

Of course there are many benefits of having your data "in the cloud," but I think their prices are way too high.

I was about to say, "What?! And lose the Windows compatibility they bragged on so much with the Intel transition? You're kidding me!", then I remembered that Windows 8 is also rumored (confirmed?) to run on ARM.

    This might actually happen..
Yes, hmm... You bring up an interesting point of view here.

Windows 8 do currently run on ARM, yes:
    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/ces-microsoft-shows-off-windows-8-on-arm/8339

Not sure if MS decides to ship it for ARM or not (working in a controlled tech demo doesn't imply a finished stable release in the Windows 8 timeframe), but what matters here is that Microsoft is absolutely moving to support ARM either in Windows 8 or later.

It's obvious. The answer is ALWAYS 42.

As for the math, the equation is ambiguous. Another set of parentheses would help.

    I love your first answer.

Still disagree with the second part, though..

Then, unless it is a pharmaceutical, national security, or some other VII, the company needs to get with the times. So called intellectual property is so last century and quite honestly patents are pretty useless in these fast changing times. Any company requiring security clearance most likely will not allow them. Mine does not. It's based on the sensitivity of the environment.
